INTEGRATED COASTAL USE ZONATION AND INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENT FOR IMPLEMENTATION

Zonation is one of the tools in coastal zone management. Zonation delineates the area function of a given region according to its spatial use for optimization of its function and easier management.  Following the demarcation of an area according to its function, rules and regulations are established to control the activity in the area. This comes in the form of licensing and permitting system. Through this system, activities in the respective zonation scheme are regulated through permitted, restricted and prohibited activities. Compatible usage of each scheme and on the adjacent shall be considered in a harmonious planning.

Among the prominent functional zone in the project area is port and shipping zone, industrial zone, residential zone, aquaculture zone, agriculture zone, wildlife sanctuary zone and forestry zone.

The zonation approach in Port Klang is centered to the application of Selangor Waters Management Enactment 1999 in the implementation of the zonation scheme in the project area. This will create balance to the development, as foreseen by the Enactment itself as a balancing weightage to the environment preservation site on behalf of the State.
